Windows XP Service Pack 3 Problem
      #393670 - Tue May 06 2008 10:56 PM

I'm trying to download Windows XP Service Pack 3 but I'm having problems. After going to Microsoft Windows Update page and then clicking on 'Express' I got the message 'Error Number 0x80072EE2'. Tried a solution then tried 'Express' again. This time Service Pack 3 started to download but after just 19% of download the installation process seemed to just stop. After waiting for 20 minutes I cancelled the installation and turned off my McAfee Firewall. Tried to download again. This time installation process went a bit further but seemed to stop at a point which read 'Running processes after installation'. Again after about 20 minutes I cancelled since nothing seemed to be happening. Where am I going wrong ?

Hello, I have been trying to download SP3 from Windows Update too, but without any success.
I clicked download and it seemed like half an hour while I got the message "Preparing for download" (I think!), then when it said "Downloading", nothing happened.
I left my computer and came back after about half an hour, and the message said that the download had failed.
I tried re starting my PC and trying again, but it still didn't work.
Haven't had any trouble with Microsoft updates until now...

Rather than trying to install the service pack 'on the fly' so to speak, try downloading the full package from here. Be aware that it is a very large file (around 330mb) so be prepared to wait awhile. Once you have the file, disconnect from the internet, close down ALL your security packages (anti virus, anti spyware etc.) and then run the file.

Downloaded SP3 for XP last night no problem...took a long time to download and install, but just followed the instructions and all was ok.

Excellent. Let's hope Scotman has the same result.
