I don't know whether this is the right place for this query, but here goes anyway.
I have made my computer a dual boot machine with Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu. I did this by installing an old hard disc as a slave. I deleted everything on the old disc and then installed Ubuntu on it.
When I switch the machine on, it defaults to Ubuntu unless Windows is specified. Is there any way of making it default to Windows because it is causing a problem in that people who switch the machine on and then go away come back and find that Ubuntu rather than Windows is awaiting them?
I have had a look at the boot.ini file thinking that this could be edited somewhere but everything seems to refer to Windows. This is the file:
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
If any one could help it would save a domestic disaster.
Your boot.ini file is configured to default to Windows so I reckon the problem must lie in the bios. I would guess that if you change the boot order in the BIOS setup so the Windows hard disk is first it should go there by default.
On the other hand, have a look at this for help in configuring the boot.ini file.

Thanks for the information Spencer. It appears that in this particular case it is not boot.ini that has to be edited but the Ubuntu equivalent of boot.ini
I have yet to find out what that is and how to do it, but am calling it a day for the moment
