I am on my Mother in laws computer and her cd / dvd drive has stopped working.
I have checked the driver and it states up to date.
When I check on my computer it does not show 
I have tried updating driver but it says "Microsoft deems this to be the most up to date driver"
She is running vista sp1, but this did not work before the sp.
The device manager gives the name of the dvd/ cd as "ATAPI DVD A DH20A4P ATA device"
Thanks in advance for any help.

OS Windows XP pro SP2, Norton 2006 , I use Adware and Spybot. Radeon 9800 pro graphics with AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+, Maxtor 152GB hard drive.

Removing the upper and lower filters sometimes helps, have a look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
