There's life in the Athlon still!
      #392902 - Mon Apr 28 2008 05:37 AM

Why introduce a brand New range of Processors when theres still the Old Faithfuls ?
AMD have added some new Duo core Processors to their Athlon 64 Lineup and You think they are going to be faster or something else?
This time they are going down the latter route. Their New Chips are fast 2.5 Ghz typical per core, but read the article They use only a fraction of the power consumption that the majority of the Athlons use. Can be anywhere up tp 90 watts and More wattage= Heat= Shortens component life!.Only respite is to Maximise cooling= More Power consumption =Bigger wattage PSU needed = Generates more heat! (Vicious cycle!)
Well according to the Numbers in this article these new processors have a claimed power@ Idle of just 45 watts!
Prices on Google Are Just 54 Pounds average(On Back order only) , Yet to see where they fit in the Athlon Performance league table (Should be on a par with the 6000+ , and also how they are priced against the 8xxx and 9xxx series Phenoms with which they share a common Socket and Motherboard
They'll work best on the AM2+ board mentioned in my other Posting in this section
And there is a technical review here in this article of the same Board (12 pages long)
http://tinyurl.com/526y4u

The number to search for is Athlon 4850e
and these configuration Chip and motherboards are beng marketed as HTPC Platforms= Home Theatre PCs So they will be better for playing media on rather than playing games. But for a light games user they may still be good value? And the ASUS Motherboards have excellent LAN access.
Good value for a Home computer builder on a Budget
Only thing that lets it down is the Graphic card arrangement Shall give it 8/10
I Would like to see a 2 graphic card version of this Motherboard ASUS? The 3 card version is too much!
