Hi Everyone hope someone can help with my problem
My brother brought a laptop and wanted to go wireless with it,He is on virgin media and brought the correct wireless router to use,Has he has really not much knowledge of setting computers up etc he asked me to do it has i have a fair bit of how things work etc,Will we set up the wireless router has per intstructions then asked the laptop to find the connection (vista home premium) and it found it with no problem the only thing was it would not connect to the internet, all we would get was local connection only we made sure that everything was ok but still no internet connection.we searched the linksys site for info and done all that was asked but still no joy with the laptop connecting to the internet, all we could still get was local connection only and the signal was 100%,We switiched the laptop and pc and wireless router, cable modem off and banged our heads to gether for ideas we switiched everything back on and you would not believe this but the laptop had a internet connection and would connect to the internet 100%
Then we tried the desktop pc would you believe it now the desktop has no internet connection it keeps saying that it needs an ip address we look at the repair side of connections it will go away and find an ip address but the desktop will not connection to the internet,
Has anyone come across this problem themselves because this we are beginnging to go bald with pulling our hair out
Sorry if this abit long winded but i cannot discribe it any other way,if i have missed out any info please let me know and i will come back to you.
Look forward to your replies

Hello SparkS01
My brother had the same problem and we followed the following advice which worked!!
My suggestion is to configure the router manually. Please refer to the steps provided below:
Kindly reset the router first by pressing the Reset button at the back for 10-20 seconds.
1. Disconnect the modem from the router first, and connect the PC to the port one of the router then restart it. (This PC should be the one that can get online if directly connected to the modem)
2. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Browser.
3. When browser opens, type 192.168.1.1 into the "Address" bar and click on Go.
4. The log-in window will appear.
5. Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK.
6. On the Setup page, please make sure that the Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP or Obtain an IP automatically, then hit on Save Settings below.
7. Under the Setup tab, click on the MAC Address Clone sub tab and click on "Clone your PC's MAC" button, then save the settings.
8. Please go back to Basic Setup, then change the LAN IP address to 192.168.2.1, and then hit on Save Settings below. Don't worry if the page will hang or lock up.
9. Shut down everything for 2 minutes.
10. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router and power on. (Starting from the modem then the router and lastly your PC).
This was advice from Linksys, so I hope it works for you.

First this to do is switch everything off and remove the power leads. By everything I mean the VM modem, the router and the PC. Now connect your router to both the VM modem and the PC with ethernet cables. Don't attempt to do anything with the wireless settings until you have a proper wired connection. You can, if you wish, connect the laptop to the router now as well, again using an ethernet cable.
Now power up the VM modem. Wait until you have steady lights on POWER, SYNC and READY. Now power up the router. The ENET light on the VM modem should now be alight along with the light on the router. Now power up the PC and the laptop and see if you can now connect.
Once that bit is working you can setup the wireless network, making sure that you have all the relevant security.
