External hard drive
      #392892 - Sun Apr 27 2008 09:17 PM

I have a Buffalo hard drive on order from Misco.

I intend to use it to move quite a few Gig of music from my laptop to free up some space.

Need to ask though, what's the best method of moving the files. Should I copy and paste the whole lot and let it run or bit by bit. Or is there another way of doing it?

Thanks in advance.

Lee.

Hi Lee. I relocated mine to an external drive by right clicking the picture folder and then clicked on Send to F which was my external drive. Did the same with all my music files. All worked fine my end.

Kind Regards

Tom

My method waqs simply to drag and drop everything I wated to copy onto the new external hard drive.

If you copy and paste large amounds of files, your PC may freeze.

Though I did copy and past various files but in small amounts rather than in bulk.

My method is to bring up two windows side by side - external's and My Music, drag and drop each folder separately to the external just in case of any corruption in the move.

If you copy and paste, you still have the originals and won't save any space. Once you're happy everything has moved, delete the originals, unless you want to maintain a backup, which is always a good idea.
