I uninstalled Office 2003 Professional Edition with Revo-Uninstaller, as the Office suite had become corrupted. Since I've reinstalled the suite, I have been unable to install either SP3 or any of the subsequent updates. I went to the Microsoft site and was told that this may be as a result of uninstalling the original Office installation files. I have looked in the registry and cannot find entries for the individual programs (such as Word or Excel). I am a little surprised, since I would expect them to have re-appeared as a result of the reinstallation of the package. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem please?

Now that you have re-installed, have you tried un-installing Office again but via Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition > Remove > Follow the prompts.
Once removed, try re-install via your CD/DVD then try the Service Pack 3 from . . . >> HERE << . . .
This update includes all previous Service Packs.

Thank you Fusion.
I did what you said and re-installed the program. I also successfully downloaded and installed the update (from July 2007) that you pointed me to. However, I am still unable to install any subsequent updates (including KB943649 and KB947355) even though I also downloaded them as executables. I get the message "this update cannot be applied).
Thanks for any further advice.

Try downloading from this link . . . . . >> Updates for Office 2003 << . . . . .
I personally wouldn't worry too much if you can't download one or two updates. Some are made available for 'potential' vulnerabilities which may or may not apply.

I tried the link, but again, they won't update. I suppose you're right. How do I get rid of the yellow update shield on the bottom of my screen?
Thanks for the help.

Have you tried whilst in Internet Explorer clicking on Tools > Windows Update.
When your System has been scanned for updates to be installed, select Customize.
Hopefully a list of 'available' updates will be shown where you can de-select the updates you have shown above and a chance to check "don't show this again".
Unfortunately I can't give the exact wording as when I try to connect through IE7 at this moment in time, I'm getting a server error.
