speedtouch 330 woes
      #392371 - Tue Apr 22 2008 03:42 PM

ok here's a weird one, Sunday everything was working fine with no problems! come Monday after booting up I found my usb keyboard seems to have died after replacing it with a spare one I thought nothing of it but after an hr or so I found that the left hand light on the speedtouch modem was flashing between red and green! in the meantime I lost all ability to surf, the only way around it was to reboot my system! about 2hrs later it did the same thing again!! it has since done the same yet again today (tuesday!) I'm wondering if the usb port which I had both the keyboard and modem plugged into has somehow damaged the modem? I've tried switching ports but to no avail, I've also noticed my isp is having service problems and after ringing them got only the standard answers as in unplug anything else or reinstall driver! anyone got any ideas what this problem is? it's driving me nuts now!

Hi mate, I have had exactly the same problem for around 4 months now. I have also started seeing a much increased boot-up time since the problem first started.

I have been unable to identify any solutions at all and have tried most avenues including my ISP (Virgin.net).

I have a feeling in my water that this problem might be linked to either Windows Office 2007 or ZoneAlarm. Office because I installed that around the same time and ZoneAlarm as that now takes ages to boot-up on start/re-start.

I would be grateful to know if there are any similarities between our posts that might help identify a common thread. If not I will delete Office and let you know the outcome.

Andy

You are both using a broadband modem that connects to your computer via USB, a system that was never designed for networking, uses a huge amount of computer resource and is prone to break down. The only reason that ISP's gave these things away is because they were cheap (and nasty).

If you want something that works properly, get a router that connects to your PC via ethernet, the system that was actually designed for networking.

Have a look at this for an example of what to get.

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
