How to leave Virgin Media?
      #392324 - Mon Apr 21 2008 09:42 PM

Hi all I'm currently with Virgin Media and I want to cancel their service, im currently on broadband bundle 2 (£15) I have rang them up they said to cancel my contract will cost £78!, but i got it dropped to £60 by lying telling them i lost my job etc. I also rang up about my mac code, i requested that off them should be here in a few days. but the thing is i just read about i have to give 30 days notice? what is the 30 days notice all about? will i get charged even more? because im goin to give my mac code to o2 as soon as i get it and will be switched over in about 7 days, but this is not 30 days notice. so what will happen? what can virgin do? can they charge me more? please help. thanks

Do you mean you have a Broadband service via your telephone or a Virgin Media cable connection?

I've edited your post as this is a family forum, please be careful of your language.

If you're canceling your contract before it's expired you will be expected to pay a fee. It will be part of the terms and conditions that you agreed when you took out the service.

All broadband providers require a 30 day notification period. Again this is explained in your terms and conditions you accepted when you took out the broadband with them.

Hi pal, I rang them up and they said " soon as you give your mac code to your new isp, your 30 day cancellation period starts then. so I wont be on my new isp until 30 days after i give my mac code. and my contract I'm on with virgin will also drop in price by about £18, so he said all in all i will have to pay remainder of my contract £42 and the calls that i make in that period of 30 days and that's it im completely done with virgin media. do you think that is correct or is he lying to me? thanks

where did you hear that ?

I can guarantee that isn't so, i have been with ntl/virgin for 8 years, i have never had a cap put in place, and many weeks i download more than 5 Gb.

and the fact that you lied to them (i lost my job) doesn't come into it ?

It's obvious you have a bee in your bonnet about virgin, i hope you find a better provider, but i think you are in for a shock.

I would go along with that. To be honest Virgin takes a bit of beating . 6 years down the line with them and apart from the odd e-mail blip i've had No other problems.

lying to them is the only way around it. it lowered the leaving cost for me so it paid off. virgin are useless I've read 100s of rubbish reviews about virgin, I should know what they are like i've been with them for over 6 years. virgin.net was the best until branson merged ntl, telewest and virgin together since then the service went to rubbish. on the cap list every week. my con goes from so called 8mb to 79k modem speed lol, what a joke. im currently switchin to my new isp, my gf is also on it the 20mb package she has been for 3 months now, runs like a dream nothing but over 2.3mb/s on usenet, ping of 12 to 16 can't complain with that. i hope virgin crash and burn for their useless fair use policy and rubbish service.

Even though o2 states "unlimited usage" on their tarrifs, if you read the small print, it also states "Fair usage policy applies". Same with every ISP.

As for your last comment, that's really nasty....there are a lot of regular members of this forum who use VM and we're all satisfied. They've never let me down in seven years (and more if you include telephone/tv services).

I've also read bad comments on o2's service, there are bad comments on all ISPs!

Well, good luck to you with your o2 connection, may they never pull the plug on their "fair usage" policy.

Mr Fusion sir, that is a rather amazing speed...you must be whizzing around the internet!

I mentioned earlier on that the small print in o2's tarrifs states there is a "fair usage policy", so you might find that you will be capped again.

PS. Could you also please not use capital letters in posts, it's considered as shouting. Thanks.
