Can I just say to anyone who is getting, or just got a machine with Vista installed (and i could be showing myself up badly here!) Don't mess about with the registry, or backup files! I have just half killed my laptop by deciding to clear out unwanted files, as i had hardly any room left. Sadly i deleted stuff that i should have never touched. Now it has to be completely re- installed. I am sure i am going to be villified here, but not all of us are as competent as many of the members on this forum, sorry , i should have asked your advice. I felt so confident, and now i feel so daft! In future i will ask you lot first!

Did you use a program like CCleaner to clean up the reg or did you do it manually? I have been using it for a couple of weeks now with no probs at all.If you do touch the reg it asks if you want to create a backup before it removes anything so you can return to how it was if there is a prob.

Hi Goonster, yes i did use CCleaner, and then tried restoring it with the backup but it created even more chaos! Then i tried system restore and that didn't work. So i have sent it to my computer doc for a complete re install. It's my own fault for messing with stuff i don't understand!! I will know better next time! Also i think i deleted files to do with my DVD drive as it won't play/load anything!
