laptop will not start

My Dell laptop won't start. When I try to boot it up it gives me the following message

"Loading PBR for description 2....done

A disc read error occurred
Press Cont+Alt+Del to start"

Can anyone advise - thanks

Could be a faulty hard drive.

When you turn it on, press the F12 key (usually F12 with Dell) to go to the boot options menu.

If there's a diagnostics options, select that and run all the tests.
