With all the Peoples Attention being focused on the Development of the AMD 9000 series Quad Core Phenom Processors With their Startling performance Running up to 10 GHZ Did you think as I thought they had left a gaping Hole in the Processor speeds in the 6 to 7 Ghz region?
And there was a low key announcement by AMD which was was passed on by Many People which has now filled the gap snugly But I think (No stock or prices yet) that this will undercut its Bigger brother in a short time And It is a straight fit into the Same Motherboard as its Big Brother Performance obviously will be slower (as its 1 core Less) But who's Counting? It will still out perform all this generations Processors Its been Numbered AMD Phenom X3 8xxx if you want to Google it I will be interested to see where the RRP will be set .I think It will fall to Between 20/30 pounds less than the other series (This is at about 130 pounds) But the 9000 series has had No OEM units on sale yet which will see it drop to about the 100 pound Mark. The 3 core(8K series) therefore will be priced I'd guess, in the High 80's when it goes to OEM

AMD Launches World’s First x86 Triple-Core Processors
— New AMD Phenom™ X3 8000 series processors and AMD 780 chipsets create the ultimate mainstream desktop platform —
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- March 27, 2008 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the availability of AMD Phenom™ X3 8000 series triple-core processors, providing gamers and digital media enthusiasts with exceptional performance at mainstream price points. AMD Phenom X3 processors are designed to improve multi-threaded application performance over dual-core processors at the same clock speed. As the world’s only triple-core x86 processor, AMD Phenom X3 processors bring multi-core technology to a broader audience in search of desktop PCs that easily handle today’s digital entertainment workloads. When paired with the AMD 780 series chipset, AMD Phenom X3 processors can deliver significant enhancements in gaming and high-definition experiences for mainstream PC customers. This AMD desktop solution can provide a full HD experience with support for the latest and most demanding formats, including VC-1, MPEG-2 and H.264 on a mainstream PC. With the AMD Unified Video Decoder (UVD), the solution can process HD playback on the better-suited GPU rather than the CPU so consumers may enjoy a smooth HD viewing experience—less lag, stalling and dropped scenes—in the latest Blu-ray titles.
