Right click My Computer | Properties | System Restore | Settings
Set the slider as required and OK out.
This is for XP, for Vista ask again or Google.

to decide on the percentage of disk space to use u must consider the size of hard drive ur using i have a 500gb hd so mine is set at 1% which is plenty
normally set the percentage so system restore only uses a max of 5gb and recycle bin no more than 100mb that way u can utilise more disk space for yourself

OurStanley is quite right. 3% 'system restore' allows for enough restore points. I've never understood why anyone would need the default of 12% anyway.

You will notice a dramatic increase in 'free space' on the disc when you have done it. Mine increased from 13.0GB to 17.0GB when I did it some weeks ago
.
