laptop problem- crashing
      #391088 - Thu Apr 10 2008 08:26 PM

Hi,

Im looking for a bit of help if you dont mind. My Laptop has recently started crashing and i cant figure out what it is...

The mouse cursor will freeze and the machine switches itself off. It usually happens around 30 minutes after start up. I can usualy switch it straight back on, it never restarts. Its almost as though the power was cut.
From reading about similar problems here and on other sites I think it may be overheating? Ive run Everset and the temps never go above 60, although running speedfan shows them slightly higher but never much higher, it seems to crash before they get that high!

Also,There are never any system alerts logged and i never get a blue screen,I have cleaned out the fans and they appear to be running fine.

im just a bit stuck as to where to go from here...
its a fujitsu siemens amilo p1536, running win XP sp 2, with a mobile dual core intel pentium m 1.66ghz... and is about 6 months out of warranty

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks a million!

As you seem to have done some research on a similar users problem, can I check that you've looked at where you have your laptop positioned?

hey mouse,
tanks, but yes, i thought about that, only ever use it on my desk, or very occasionaly on my lap. I started propping the four corners up to give about an inch of space under the machine when it started crashing, it sadly doesnt seem to help...

Do you get enough time on the laptop for it to run any virus and spyware checks?

Any unnecessary applications running in the background?

What are you doing when the crashes occur?

im working through doing these just now, managed to run a full virus scan on Sophos and its clean, would doing a hijack type scan be quite fast/give any answers?

when its crashed recently iv been trying to se it for uni, i.e. word processing/ viewing pdf's/ web browsing, nothing too taxing.
