Would someone be so kind as to check my HJT log please?
Running XP SP3. System taking increasingly longer booting up and Internet Explorer is getting painfully slow opening up 2-3 mins+ sometimes
I regularly run Adaware, Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster and occasionally Kaspersky Kavscan. I used to run CW Shredder but have stopped as every time I try to update it refuses to connect to the server
Spybot is regularly finding “Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCentre.AntiVirusOverride”. I remove it and every time I do, on the next boot up I get Windows Security Centre warning me I might not have an antivirus loaded – I do. I have AVG free which updates and runs daily, and am running Sygate Personal Firewall
One final minor – I notice in the HJT log there are references to Incredimail – I THOUGHT I had removed everything to do with Incredimail a long, long time ago

Hi PeteH,
Sorry I couldn't deal with this last night but I was very busy elsewhere.
The first thing you need to do is review your securities. I can see entries for the following at present. AVG Anti-virus Ad-Aware Sygate Spybot S&D Symantec Shared\Security Center
Is there any more as I'm concerned about conflicts.
Please post a full list of all these programes you have on there.
Also post a complete programmes list:
Open Hijackthis, Click Config | Misc Tools | Open Unistall Manager. A list of the entries in Add/remove programs will appear. Click on Save List... The list will be saved as 'Uninstall_list.txt' Copy & Paste the contents in your next reply.
You are running an old version of Sun Java which needs updating:
- Go here and click on the Download button to the right of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5.
- Accept the license agreement by clicking the appropriate radio button and then continue.
- Under Windows Platform - Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 5, click the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language link.
- Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any entries that refer to Java 2 Runtime Environment and then reboot your PC.
- Navigate to and delete the following folder, if it exists: C:\Program Files\Java.
- Finally double click the installation file that you downloaded earlier.
Can you please turn off "Wordwrap" in Notepad as it distorts the log and makes it un-readable. In Notepad click on the format tab at the top and untick wordwrap. Then post a new HJT (Hijackthis) log along with the information requested above.
Joe.

Hi Joe and thanks for your help
Couple more things I forgot to mention at the start – I notice from the HJT log I am running SP2 and not SP3 as I said – confused with work laptop. Regards slow opening – Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel also open painfully slowly.
Securities: AVG AntiVirus Ad Aware 2007 Spybot S&D (running in background I think) Spywareblaster 4 Sygate Personal Firewall Hijack this – obviously just run on demand Kaspersky online scan (local stored associated files) run on demand CW Shredder on the pc but never used – was run on demand but stopped using when the update kept failing
Symantec (Norton) shared / security centre – Norton came pre-installed but I stopped using it a long time ago when I was directed to AVG by this site. Have tried uninstall / removal of Symantec files but cant seem to get rid of them all. Deleted some manually – I think that’s probably why some of the entries in HJT log entries for Symantec say files missing

Hi Pete,
Please disable TeaTimer, it can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean at the end of this fix.
- Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
- In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
- Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
- Expand the "Tools" menu.
- Click "Resident".
- Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
- In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
I strongly recommend uninstalling Limewire via the add/remove utility in the control panel.
See further information on this By Taz CC here:
http://www.castlecops.com/t204179-P2P_programs_we_ask_that_you_remove_first.html
Also uninstall this outdated entry: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Download and run the Norton/symantec removal tool appropriate to the version you have from here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=symsug_us
Do you have other user accounta on the computer? If so please post separate HJT logs for each one.
I'm looking through you HJT log now.
Post back when you've done the above.
Joe.

Hi Joe
Spybot resident disabled (eventually) - the first time I unclicked it in the tools window it still opened on next boot - went back in and unclicked it in the start up tab
Limewire uninstalled ( kids wont be pleased Ha)
Java 5 update 3 - couldnt find it. When i uninstalled Jave yesterday before installing 6 there were 2 subfolders in the main Java folder in the c/program files, 1 of which was 5.03. That got deleted then and I cant find any sign of it now
Norton removal tool run and all mention of Norton / Symantec now gone from HJT log
Thanks

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the information,
Quite frankly there isn't anything nasty showing in your HJT log as such. Please fix all the entries below in any event.
Once you've done that I suggest doing a more in depth scan with Combofix below.
We can deal with the remnants of IncrediMail later in the fix.
Open Hijackthis, take another scan and place a checkmark next to these entries.
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - (no file) O16 - DPF: ChatSpace Full Java Client 3.1.0.219 - http://surechat.com:9000/Java/cfs31219.cab O16 - DPF: DigiChat Applet - http://host7.digichat.com/DigiChat/DigiClasses/Client_IE.cab O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Close all open Windows except Hijackthis and click on "fix Checked". Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
Please download ComboFix from either of these two locations
BleepingComputer GeeksToGo
And save it to your Desktop.
* Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts. * When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt. Post that log in your next reply
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Post back with the log from ComboFix and a new HJT log please.
Full Instructions
Joe.

OK - I have tried, tried and tried again but Combofix will NOT run
I ran HJT - selected the entries as indicated, apart from 023 which did not appear. Closed all windows - clicked fixed - rebooted.
Downloaded Conbofix to desk top Clicked on icon - got a run box with windows warning - selected run - briefly saw a combofix progress bar then nothing happened - no prompts / no messages - nothing. Wated a few minutes then clicked combofix again - same result - nothing
Looked in C drive and no combofix.txt but a new folder (327882R2FWJFW) had appeared - inside which were combobatch and combo-fix.sys but no .txt
Deleted this folder, deleted combofix.exe from desktop - rebooted pc Downloaded combofix again to desktop - double clicked - no run box - brief progress bar - then "Installation failed" box appeared
Followed the link to the full explanation on your site - hadn't been disabling the antivirus and firewall. Deleted the 3278 folder - rebooted - disabled firewall and antivirus - clicked combofix on desktop - "Installation failed"
Tried to restore to yesterday to undo any changes the failed attempt to run might have made - restore failed

Hello Pete,
Sorry you're having this trouble with Combofix. Something must have blocked it when you tried to run it originally.
I appreciate all the efforts you made but if things don't go as planned just report back. Never delete anything manually or do a system restore during a fix, unless instructed, as this may cause a system failure and may also restore any malware etc we deliberately removed.
I would like you to start again but first you need to delete the existing version.
To do that:
- Click START then RUN
- Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK ](case insensitive)

- When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will
- Delete ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
Once that is done follow the original instructions and download and run Combofix again.
Joe.

Looks like I've totally buggered something up
Start / Run / ComboFix /U
Result: "Windows cannot find ComboFix - check you have typed the name correctly and try again"

Is the Combofix Icon still on your desktop?
If it is then copy and past ComboFix /U into the run box and click OK.
If it doesn't work just delete the Combofix Icon manually from the desktop and then see if you can download it again and proceed as per the original instructions.
If not let me know and post a new HJT log.
Thanks,
Joe.

The Combofix icon was still on the desktop. Copied and pasted Combofix /U into the Run command box - same result as before ie "Cannot find Combofix - check spelling etc"
Deleted it manually from the desktop and downloaded again
