its own built in Dictionary

In a word 'No'. XP is an operating System.

What program, if any are you wanting to use a dictionary with?

Hi Fusion.
Many thanks for your reply.
I am at a friends home and
he said he had lost the Dictionary.
I have since learnt that he has
Windows word processor on this machine
and had lost the shortcut icon.
All is resolved.
