legal issues with video copying
      #390345 - Thu Apr 03 2008 10:30 PM

I purchased material that I want to use for training others. The fee to buy included a license to use for training.

However it was much cheaper to buy videos rather than DVD's - about a third of price. What I would like to do now is use some software (only one I know is Dazzle - is there anything better and cheaper??) to transfer these videos onto DVD (and edit them down to the main points) so I can use them on my laptop and not lunck about a video player

On my license it states that they may not be copied. But as I am not truly copying them for distributing purposes - simply moving them to an easier format - is that legal?

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated

You want the obvious answer?

There are no qualifications to that statement - you chose the cheap option and that's one of the penalties. A copy is a copy no matter that it is copied from one format to another.

I am for a start. If you are proposing that the OP should indulge in copyright theft, please don't do it on this forum.
