3g contract ? ? ?
      #390067 - Tue Apr 01 2008 12:17 PM

anyone got this prob,
three months ago i orderd a dongle (£15) from g3, from the first day it was never up to scratch, getting online was realy difficult, sometimes no connection for two three days, when i do get conected i have a download speed of below 500 kbps, i told 3g about this by phone and was told rather rudely this was tough and i must see out my 18 month contract, i wrote to them and said i had no intention of doing this (no reply), if i stop my d/d what would happen then, has anyone any ideas on this, to me it seems a ripoff.

If you stop your direct debit you will eventually find the bailiffs knocking on your door seeking money. 3 will simply apply for a court order to recover their money. First of all have you checked that you have full broadband coverage via 3G where you live? If you do you may have a case.

thanks greysts,
according to 3g,s graph i`m in a turbo area, i ran two more speed tests and i`m still below 500 kbps, they will not answer my mail and dont seem to want to disscuss the problem over the phone, i had thought that by stopping my d/d they would at least get in touch with me, no luck. anyone else have any ideas, alan
p.s am i right in assuming that 500kbps is very poor ??

500kb is a reasonable speed for what is, in effect, a mobile phone. It's at least 10 times faster than a normal dial-up connection. The absolute maximum is quoted as 2.8mb but in reality it's more likely to be around 2.2mb. If you are looking for the sort of broadband speeds that you get from a landline or cable then a mobile bb modem is not the way to get it.

DO NOT!!! Stop your d/d payments.I did.I cancelled them on my bank on line.I got sent a letter to pay up.10 weeks down the line I had a letter of a debt collection agency!
If you do not pay them you will be taken to court, and be listed as a bad debtor.
My contract is up in 3 months. They can then kiss my A**S!

Jacktar i can only sypathise with your position. Im in the same boat, i signed up for an 18 month contract with 3 in december 07 so have ages to wait before i can finally tell them to shove it.
I get similiar speeds even though im meant to be in a turbo area.
I also thought about cancelling my DD with them.
These are the worst IPs ive ever used, i also made the mistake of getting my wife and me on their contract phones, also over a year to go. Mobile phones keep cutting out etc.
I hate 3 with a passion.
And im very very unhappy
Please anyone reading this think before you buy from this company, they make slugs look fast.

Then be prepared to have a Court Order issued by 3 and for a debt collecting agency to be employed to recover the money you owe them. Cancelling a Direct Debit without going through the full disputes procedure is just about the worst thing you could do. In the eyes of the law you are in the wrong and you could find yourself with a mark on your credit record that will cause you untold grief in the future.

Based on what you said in your previous posts I don't think you have a case to argue but simply stopping a payment won't get you anywhere.

greysts,
have you had any dealings with 3g,I dont think you would write what you did if you had,in my view they have sold me something that is not doing what they said it would,'eg'superfast turbo downloads did not happen, superfast connections where a myth (7 out of 10 times no connection at all ),customer relations non existent. I informed 3g that their package was not what I expected and that I was quite prepared to pay for the dongle and any other charge incurred as I didn't want something for nothing, I have now paid them £60 by d/d and not used their service at all, they have made no attempt to reply as requested by mail or phone, therfore I am not prepared to pay for a service i am not recieving, as I suppose you would .Be assured greysts their service is absolutly abomnable. alan

Yes I have dealt with 3 and yes, I've got a BB dongle. It works as I would expect it to work, but only in those places that have a good signal and only at a maximum of around 2mb.

I say again, cancelling your direct debit might make you feel better won't it won't get you anywhere, and in fact could make things a whole lot worse.

having been informed that i'm in a turbo area and would recieve around 2meg surely you would agree that 470 k/s is unacceptable, plus a bad conection rate? alan

Hi Jacktar,
Just run a test and am not even getting a 512kb connection, I have currently 12 months to run out my 18 month contract. On the bright side i have just joined virgin media on a 4mb soon to be 10mb connection speed for a reasonable £16 a month for the first 12 months including free wireless router and NO download limit (instead of 3s over generous 3gb limit...pah)
In a glorious 12 months i can finally tell 3 that thanks for the lovely 18 months theyve given me but i have decided i no longer require there (Lack of ) service
Im a bit miffed having to swap and still pay 3 but suppose ive no other option...i arent as brave as you Jacktar...but wish you all the best.
But look at it this way, its amazing how many people can be informed of 3s crappy dongle and connection via forums.
Might be surprising how many people will read these forums, if it put just 2 people off 3 for sake of argument it would cost them more than it would have to reimburse you Jacktar if you know what i mean.
Hmm just had a thought could i sell my 3 dongle and get some form of money back??
Keep telling everyone you know jacktar about 3s "Brilliant" service.
Maybe they might start listening
Oh and by the way my wife and me are going to swap mobile phone operators from 3 too in 12 months (Even worse than the dongle, but thats another story)

after stopping my d/d to planet3 and sending them a letter explaining why and telling them i had sent a copy to ofcom they phoned me and asked me to reconsider, I refused and told them again about there terrible service,he then asked me if I could sell it to a member of my family, or a friend,I refused and told him nobody was interested, he then said he would call me back after speaking to his supervisor, three days later he called me back and said as a special favour to me he would agree to terminate the contract as of now,planet3 sent me a prepaid envelope to return their dongle wich I did, that was the last I heard, so GREYSTS with his bleating post about court orders and bailiffs was wrong, stopping your d/d is not a crime at all, stand up to these people with there bullying atitudes and threats,END OF STORY, ALAN.
p.s. taylor71 try it.
