How do I protect an image on a profile - Help Needed!
      #389988 - Mon Mar 31 2008 04:37 PM

Hi guys and gals,

The problem I have is that I would like to post a few pics of family members on my Facebook account, but I do not want people being able to 'right click' and 'copy' the pictures. I vaguely remember something being written about this in Webuser magazine a while ago.

Is there any software or anything I can do so that my personal pictures cannot be copied directly from??

Any assistance is greatly appreciated,

Jak.

The short answer: no.

The slightly less short answer; even disabling right-click cannot protect any file placed on the Internet. Anyone vaguely worth their salt, if determined to grab, can and will - either by finding the location of the image file through the page source code, or simply using a screen grab.

Facebook does afford some restrictions to your photo albums and may be worth investigating, but it's dependent on who you have on your friends list, etc..

There are image hosting/storing sites that restrict access by password, you could then pass that to family for viewing. But that's only as effective as the weakest link in the family chain... You might be better distributing them via email.
