Hello there, ive recently had enough of AOL and decided to move ISP, i first thought of Demon, but upon calling them several times i have never had so inept customer services that i decided not to join, so now i placed an order with Virgin media for an ADSL 8mb connetion with unlimited download cap, but i have since read some REALLY bad reviews , that there speed is awful and they slow you right down further at peak times, which is the exact reason im leaving AOL as i play alot of online games and there becoming unplayable at AOL, if Virgin are the same im gonna cancel the order before it goes through. What i was wondering is are virgin as bad as i have read? also can any of you tell me of a smaller ISP (as i believe these will hav better support and speeds) that are fast, with no download cap and cost less than £30 per month? or mabey a list and review site with this info on it. Many thanks.

If you mean your internet is to be supplied by virgin's own cabling, then you should get pretty close to 8mb, however if virgin is just your isp and your using bt's old fashioned copper wire, well the words "up to 8mb" become very important.
Virgin's customer service, like anyone other company can at times leave you wanting to bang your head against a brick wall, but in my twelve years with cable, these incidents are few and far between.
As to your gaming, well in my house we use the net for a lot of online gaming etc and as long as your not a heavy downloader on a regular basis, your speeds should be ok.

I have been a Virgin Media customer from the time is was Cable & Wireless. I am on Cable Broadband 20Mb, and I cannot really fault it. Most of the time I am achieving 15+ Mb on tests and bar the occasional reboot after system maintenance I do not have any problems. I have had to contact the Tech Ops once on the 0960 (expensive) number, but when I explained the problem, the cost of the call was credited back to my account. Oldtimer13
