Transferring library from iPod to pc

I have recently started using a new pc. I have an iPod, and all the iTunes library content is on the old pc.

Is there a quick and easy way of transferring my library from my iPod, to iTunes on my new pc please?

I do have an external hard drive and wonder whether I would use that or some other software.
