I finally got so fed up with Vista on this laptop last night I decided to go back to XP, this after months of rebooting because of Vista problems. I set the PC to boot from CD drive, put XP disc in, booted, um, no, seems my Acer laptop has some sort of protection that stops the CD booting? The bios has no option to remove the vista infected hard drive from the boot list, I can only move it up or down the list. Of course the disc will not install when running in vista, the install XP option is faded out, obviously because vista is a more advanced better operating system. Anyway, any ideas how I can get this laptop to boot from CD before I throw it out the window. I just want my XP back!

The boot from CD option? If so, move it to the 1st boot device, save the settings and exit.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Thanks for replying, but like I said in my post above, I have set the CD drive as first boot device, but something, probably some top secret Acer/Vista software, keeps blocking anything booting from the drive, it looks at the CD drive then goes thro the boot device list until it finds vista. I will try and get hold of a live linux cd and see what happens with that, I'll post my results.

There won't be anything on the computer to prevent it booting from CD. Have you booted from the CD before? It seems to me like it can't find anything on the CD to boot from so continues on to the next boot option.

Try a different CD copy of XP (one of your mates might lend their's).Your copy may be corrupted (scratches or greasy finger prints).
