Hi, I am trying to capture computer screen and dvd etc on my large tv screen using a cable - Computer VGA to TV S-Video RCA AV 3 Adapter Cable which is a 15 point connection from the laptop via 3 RCA plugs to the Tv- without success. I have set the Tv to the PC option but neither sound nor the computer screen is showing. The cable from Hong Kong is unorthodox in its colour connections of the rca plugs which are red blue and green and obviously do not match the red white and yellow of the TV. I have tried all the combinations in the Tv without success. I am sure it is something simple but it is alluding me! Can anyone please advise on the colours for the video and speakers? Many thanks
Do I need to toggle something on the keyboard to enable visibility on the screen?

You normally need a TV Out port on your PC to connect to a TV rather than the VGA port. That will normally only work if you've got a VGA port on the TV as well. Having said that to redirect the output from a laptop to the external VGA port you normally use Fn+F5 which toggles between laptop screen/external screen/both. It might not be F5 on your laptop. Have a look at the function keys to find one that's got a picture of two TV screens.

Thanks, I had tried the fn +f5 toggle but there was still nothing on the TV screen. On the side of the set there is an S video socket but also three RCA sockets marked V (I assume video) and L&R for the speaker connections. It was to these three sockets I have connected- experimenting with the strange colours i listed earlier. Beside these sockets it says AV3. I switched the TV setting to AV3 but this still did not work. The description from the supplier regarding the cable states it will suit nearly all laptops and as mine is a Toshiba Satellite and fairly common I would think this would be Ok. Would a connection reproduce what is on the laptop screen or would it have to be a from the dvd slot in the laptop? Thanks again for your support.

I still think that you can't use the VGA 15pin socket on your laptop to send to a TV. Do you have any other outputs (apart from the obvious like USB, mouse or keyboard)?

Looking at the the manual for the laptop it shows the 15 pin port as being an external monitor port to allow connection to an external video display. Beside this port on the computer there is a 4 pin S video cable connector and it does say 'TV out' in the manual. If this is the correct connection to make to the Tv would it also have sound? What is confusing is that the seller of the cable states the cable as being suitable for the output to the tv. Maybe I need an S video cable connection at both ends? thanks again

external video display.
That's the point, unless you've got a top dog TV with a digital input it isn't an external video display. The 'TV out' is what you need which does indeed need s-video at both ends.

Have bought new S video lead and connected to the TV-OUT on the lap top and to the S video socket on the side of the Tv. Still no picture on the tv screen despite toggling from the laptop fn+f5 and selecting all options from the Tv input selection. Baffling???? Its a new Tv - flat screen HD ready Panasonic so that shouldn't be a problem should it? I am sure it must be something simple but cannot get my head round it. Any fresh ideas please. Thanks.

Strange! Tried cable on another Tv and could see the computer desktop on the Tv screen. However, when trying to play a video through the computer it did not show on the TV?

So you've got a signal from PC to TV, although not your nice new wide screen tele, yes? Which DVD player are you using?

Yes, got a signal from pc to new flat screen on one of the TVs but it does not show the Dvd. Using DVD drive in PC and can see the windows intervideo screen with controls etc but the dvd itself does not show.

Try using Real or WMP as the DVD player and see if either of those will give you a picture.
