I want to dual boot vista and xp. I have read a couple of tutorials on this but none mention if you can either see or write across into each others partitions. Any idea folks?

Once you boot to an operating system in a multi-boot environment, the other OSs are treated as 'data', so, effectively you can delete and change most of the files.
Be aware of a loss of system restore points in a Vista dual-boot environment, look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185
Also, you might like to use VistaBootPro to handle the dual-booting, here http://www.pro-networks.org/vistabootpro/
