hi my problem is this i signed up to aol silver £14.99 month to month a wee while ago.when i phoned up to cancel was put through to bombay city or somewhwere like that and was offered it for £9.99.when i phoned up last week for my mac code i was told i was on a 18mth contract i said wot and was told when you agree to the £9.99 package its an 18mth contract,i said i was never told this on the phone, she said i should have got an email and a pop up got none of that then basically she said tuff.i have now sent several emails getting no replies from the cancellation team also have written a formal complaint still waiting for reply.was wondering if this has happened to anyone else being offered cheaper and not told or you just dont know about it yet.

That's standard procedure with all ISP's. You agreed to a new contract by saying you would take the cheaper rate of £9.99 a month. I assume you want a MAC because you've found a cheaper deal, is that correct?

Would it help that you suggest to them that you will cancel the direct debit unless they issue a MAC code?

I have my own saga with AOL Cancellations still on going (just posted a thread actually), but with regard to MAC codes, they are obliged to give it to you within 5 days of requesting it. I spoke to AOL cancellations and said that even though i hadn't decided to cancel, I would still like the MAC code in advance just in case, because according to OFCOM, they have to provide within 5 days. Once OFCOM was mentioned and they understood I knew what I was talking about, they had to agree.
Once your new ISP uses the MAC code, AOL have no choice but to cancel your account so if they try to continue to charge you, cancel your DD or whatever payment method you use, then argue the toss afterwards.

in addition to my last post, after speaking to AOL and informing them they had to provide my MAC code, it turned up by email within 24 hours.
