Hi to all.Strange problem today. Broadband working ok although down from 7.3 mbps to 2.6. Funny thing is have no dial tone on telephone, cannot ring out, and it is not ringing out albeit calls are going through to my talktalk voicemail.Any idea why this should suddenly occur. Thanks

Should have added new door been fitted today and telephone wire fits under threshold--looks okay exactly as with previous old door. Surely if fitter damaged wiring would not be able to get broadband.

It is possible to get one without the other as broadband is a digital signal and doesn't need as much band width as the voice (analogue) signal. It probably means that a connection somewhere has not quite broken down completely. Time to call TalkTalk and report the fault. I assume they have taken over your t/p line so BT won't be interested.

Hi greysts and thanks for that. Will speak with door fitter tomorrow just in case he thinks wire could have "caught " under new door. By "breking down" do you mean at a connection somewhere or possible accidental damage to line wire.Does seem a coincidence but could be nothing to do with door job. Yes it will be talktalk. Over two years with them no probs. Even recently moved address with them and benefited from their pilot scheme re removals, and in good time too. Glad someone can beat Bt at their own game.

Your phone service requires a pair of wires for it to work, however if you cut one of the 2 wires the broadband will still work but the phone wont, sounds like one leg of the pair has been been broken while the door was being fitted, unless your with cable you will need to ring BT, be careful if when they turn up the wire has been damaged by the door fitting they may charge you for the repair as it is not natural wear and tear. Just dont mention the new door when reporting it and make the engineer lots of coffee
Cheers
