Check my log please, Slow PC
      #387359 - Fri Mar 07 2008 02:34 PM

I don't know what's wrong with my desktop. It takes forever to turn on and then when I open Firefox, that takes a long time too. It also freezes a lot. I thought it had something to do with installing limewire and after I uninstalled it, the problems were less severe but they're still happening. Can someone take a look at my log and see if they can help please?

I don't see anything in your log, we'll try this first :-

Download and scan with CCleaner
  1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.
  2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
    Then select "Cookies"
Move any cookies you wish to retain, e.g. login cookies, in the left-hand window to the right-hand window by highlighting them and clicking the right arrow in the centre.

  3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
    In the Windows Tab:

    • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section.
    • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.

    In the Applications Tab:

    • Clean all entries in the Mozilla Firefox Section.
    • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
    • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.

  4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
  5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
  6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
  7. Click "exit" when done.

then DEFRAG your C:\ drive.

to help speed up your system.

then let us know how the computer is running.

Please download ComboFix from either of these two locations

BleepingComputerComboFix
geeks to go combofix

* Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
* When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Post back with the log from ComboFix and a new HJT log please.

Hey, again sorry for taking so long. Can you help me delete anything that has to do with games on my hijackthis log? My little sis installed a whole bunch and I don't want them. Here are both the combofix log and a new hijackthis.

I think it's running a little better. Most of the freezing occurs when I'm browsing which then slows everything else up.

Please download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware. from
here.
Install it and
update the program with the latest definitions.

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as follows:

  • Click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
  • Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
  • Under "How to Scan?", "Possibly unwanted software", and What to Scan?" leave all the default settings.
  • Under "Reports" select "Do not automatically generate reports".
  • Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
  • Click "Complete System Scan" to start.
  • When the scan has finished, it should automatically be set to Quarantine--if not click on Recommended Action and set it there.
  • You will also be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the :Apply all actions button.
If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report.
So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button.
  • Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you performed, select "Save report as" and save to your desktop.
The default file name will be in date/time format: Report-Scan-200706-1606.
A copy of each report will be saved in C:\Documents and Settings\<user profile>\Application Data\Grisoft\AVG Antispyware 7.5\Reports.
  • If you installed AVG AS over a previous version, reports are saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\
  • If you are a Vista user, reports are saved in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Grisoft\AVG Antispyware 7.5\Reports\

Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done, reboot normally and post the AVg log report and a new HijackThis log.

Thanks for trying to help. I don't know what caused it but the hard drive died. I finally got it replaced and now it's running fine. Maybe all the downloads were weighing it down. Thanks again.
