Ordered a Dell laptop on 3rd February and was bit stunned to see the delivery date come up as 6th March AFTER placing the order - this was after deliberately avoiding the models they said had a delay.
Stuck with it purely cos I have a Dell PC that has been very good.
Today it has changed. To 8th April.............and they charged me IN FULL on 25th February on my card.
Told them to stuff it, but anyone else had issues with them? And more importantly, anyone recommend a better place to get one?
Cheers

eBuyer is ALWAYS better. What's the spec you're looking for and what's your budget?
Then again there's always eBay

Already looked at eBuyer tonite. One of the Dell reps actually emailed to admit the delay was unusual.
This one has caught my eye, and I can get it by the weekend:

Nice machine for five hundred notes. Pity you aren't in time to get the Aldi Sunday Special last week. Same price but with 3gb of Ram and a larger hard disk.

Never mind - looking to get this one for the weekend and intend to write a nasty letter to Dell. Thanks for the advice.

I don't think you should bother wasting your time with a nasty letter, it won't get you anywhere.
You're doing the better thing, by choosing not to purchase from them. They are losing more that way.

But, come on, a nasty letter makes you feel better.............Well, it won't be THAT nasty, but I do think sometimes you have to make a point. Have to wait 5-7 days (although another email said 10) just to get the money back that they charged - and initially the rep said it was an 'authorisation' until I politely pointed out they had charged the card.
Only disappointment with Dell is the fact you get to pick what you want, but they do look like they have some BIG problems.

As Vista’s SP1 (service pack 1) is with the major manufacturers, I suggest you wait just a short time before buying a new machine. It will be beneficial to you to buy a Vista machine with SP1 included as opposed to installing it yourself.

I agree with you about the letter. It does no harm to let a company know that they are losing sales through a lack of care. It might make someone in the company try to find out what's gone wrong.

I'd certainly write to them. I had a Dell laptop under warranty which was dreadful - all kinds of problems from loose connections to failing hard drive and power supply over 2 years. After the second power supply failure I wrote to them and they sent me a new laptop worth twice the value of my old one. I know you wont be doing that, but you are/were a customer and they will care about the lost sale. Plus they should be held to account when they come up short.
