ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5...is it good? Should I keep it?
      #386616 - Sat Mar 01 2008 05:29 PM

Hi! My pc came bundled with ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5. I haven't used it eversince. Whenever I do photo-editing I use either Google's Picasa2 or IrfanView. ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 is listed in my Add/Remove as 172MB...and I'm wondering if I should get rid of it to re-claim harddisk space...or is it a valuable software I'm supposed to keep but haven't learned to use? I've read there's already ArcSoft PhotoImpression 6.5Gold so mine must be "obsolete" already. Do you know of any excellent freeware with features just like ArcSoft PhotoImpression?

Unless you actually try the installed ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5, you'll never know how good or bad it is compared with say Paint.net or Photofiltre to name but two.

Regarding Picasa2 and Irfanview, I don't think you can call them real image editors but basic viewers, converters & organisers with limited editing facilities.

I've also read so much good reviews about Paint.NET. I am actually contemplating getting it to replace IrfanView...don't know if it's right thing to do. My main concern is getting the most versatile free software, get rid of "duplicates" so I can free-up my harddisk. You didn't actually say I should get rid of ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 so I'd interpret that as an advise to keep it. Thanks for pointing me to the right decision.

There's no need to get rid of Irfanview. It isn't a large program and has it's uses other than limited 'editing' functions.
You can't compare the two as they do different things.

I would suggest you try ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 and make your own mind up if it is useful to you. As I said above, you'll never know unless you try it.

I too would say give it a try, I have Arcsoft Photostudio on a couple of my PCs (an even older version!) but I use it all the time for editing photos, especially for our school website. Give it a chance efore you delete it, you never know you might think it's wonderful
