I just tried to transfer music onto my daughters Barbire Mp3 player- started to get this error:
Windows - delayed write failed E:\$Mft
and: windows no disk exception processing message c0000013 parameters 75b6bf9c
Had a look at forums and could only find solutions of deleting all 'dit' files, or deleting Windows defender. Done that, now am still getting theses errors and now all my music's dissapeared from my external HD!!!!!!!!!!
I have Dell 5150 XP, 3Gb RAM, P4, Seagte external 250Gb HD.
UPDATE: Used PC inspector Smartrecovery which took ~10hrs to do 2%, cancelled it, and now the files have come back (!?!)- do I need to do anything to the HD to make sure this doesn't happen again??

When you have finished using a USB device, wait for about 10 seconds before physically removing it or switching off.

Your subject title refers to photographs and the post itself is concerned with losing music files. However, the same backup rules apply - make sure your personal data is secure by having more than one copy, off-line to the computer.
I'm not at all familiar with music-type programs but I do know that some of them can accidentally destroy the source files during the copying process.
If you post a specific question regarding how to make additional copies of music files in the Music and Audio section of this forum, I’m sure you’ll get lots of advice.

Woops, apolgies BurrWalnut!! Do you know about whether re-formatting the HD when I'm happy all files I need are off it will 're-set' the partition error?

There is no need to apologise, you have not broken any forum rules. I suggested the Music/Audio section as we have a number of members who are familiar with iTunes and the like and will be willing to help you.
Formatting the drive will remove all existing errors.

Will doing a simple 'right-click drive & format' be ok, or is there some fancy program that will do a better job?!?

Yes, in Disk Mngt just right-click the drive and format it to NTFS. Another possibility to consider is to partition it so that you can keep music, pictures, videos, etc. separate.
