I have 2 partitions on my laptop, one of them has Vista and all of my programs on, the other is empty. Is there a way of deleting the empty partition so there is just one partition on my laptop?
I dont have an actual Vista installation disk, just a Gateway 'recovery disk'.
It may have a recovery partition on it, are you sure it’s empty?
If you’re ABSOLUTELY sure it’s empty and want to remove it, right-click Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management then right-click the graphic of the D drive and delete it. The space should become ‘Unallocated’.
Now right-click the graphic of the C drive and select ‘Extend’ and follow the wizard. Under certain circumstances not all the space can be reclaimed.
Remember if you mess this up, you are in deep trouble as you have no Vista DVD.

I've just tried this... the right click delete worked OK, but the right click extend doesn't! It's not highlighted as an option?? Any way I can reclaim the 10Gb I've now lost
The partition that you delete has to be after the one that you wish to extend. If the utility partition is before the Windows partition then you won't be able to use Disk Management to merge the two together unfortunately.
