As I haven't been able to solve the problem I have with 'WiFi and SKY' (see earlier posting) I have decided to get rid of the Sky router and reinstall my Belkin router.
Now the SKY router automatically installed about 90% of the setup, whereas the Belkin has to be installed manually - which I am capable of doing - however, all I want to know, is this feasible, or do you think the SKY setup insists on their hardware?
Thanks

You should be able to set up the Belkin router to use your Sky connections user/pass in the routers WAN settings without a problem

SKY lock their routers so they only work on your broadband line with the settings set.
You can't configure a diffreent router because Sky won't tell you the username or password.
There are firmware hacks to be found via Google though.

Hm, I assumed they'd let you change the router via giving you the user and pass at least. I'll keep that one in mind.
But yes, you should be able to flash the router to a firmware version that is not locked by Sky.

I have just changed over to Sky Broadband Max and received the Netgear DG934GT. I was not impressed at all,Slow speeds and disconnecting etc. So, I went back to my trusty BT Voyager 2110.No hacking etc, Just used a link which gives you your sky broadband username and password by inserting the Mac key and Serial number which is under the Netgear Router.Put this into my BT voyager and Bingo, works perfectly. My speeds are around 15.3Mbps and no disconnecting at all. I am new on here so not sure if I can post the link, But if anyone needs it let me know.Should work with other routers too if you wish to use your original one.

This I've got to see! Where do you live (without being too specific).

I am finding it difficult to install my original router, so if you could post the LINK - it would really help. Thanks!

Google is your friend. Try putting "Sky username and password from MAC" without the quotes into Google and you'll get this as the first hit. It has everything you need to know.

I am afraid I am not finding this very straighforward. Is the MAC password the MAC address?

Where does it say anything about a MAC password?

err... your previous post mentioned Google and "Sky username and password from MAC" - did I misunderstand something?

I said put those words into Google as search criteria. They are key words to find the link you need. I also gave you a link to a web page which explains what you have to do. Have you clicked on that link yet?

You can't use an alternative router if you are a SKY customer, or can you correct me and tell me that the Belkin router is a SKY issued router?
The only way to use a 3rd party router, is by flashing the NETGEAR router that SKY provide and doing so could invalidate your warranty and also SKY could terminate your contract with them.

While I am considering the Moderator's post, I'll rephrase my last post - is the address and the serial number the same?
