Looking for my Piacasa icon and can only find Picasa2 which is empty of thumbnails, and have hunted high aand low, in all programs etc but cannot find original Picasa. What have I done, (unknowingly I hope) and how can I find it. Cannot see it in Recycle bin either. Desperate.

Picasa is only available in version 2.0 and above Current version is 2.7 and its Identical plus a lot of Improvements to the Original Advise installing any of these vesione and it should scan the Hard drive for images by default
If No joy Install Google Desktop whisk does a similar job and you will be able to input the location manually into Picasa to display all the Finds(also does a small scale display(on the sidebar))
Best Idea I've got

Thanks for reply BedstorfromAP, downloaded Picasa2 again but to no avail. What is Google Deasktop Finds, and where do I find it ? I came accross previous back up disc, which I ran and it said it would restore all 150 items to original place. It definitely inputed, which means original picasa is somewher - but where? They did not show on my Picasa 2.

Ok first things first where are your files Look in My Pictures C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures Thats's where they should Be Be a Folder for the Desktop Backgrounds and any other folder is yours Correct? If No then we'll dig deeper Should Hopefully find your folder and your originals This will take a few seconds
Open the Start Menu select Search click on the top item on the next window Pictures,Music or Video ..Next window check the Pictures and Photos box only then Hit the Search button and Behold There are all your Pictures But where are they Hiding ? Right Click on any and at the top of the Menu select Open Containing Folder and now you can back track as to where the file has been deposited My recommendation,Copy the folder/s and Paste it in the "My Pictures "folder (Delete the other folder/s when you have done this) Now open Picasa again Press the Control key and "O"key together this will open the My Pictures Folder From here you are on your own But... I did find something of help which will keep things up to date and should always display any image wherever it is on the Hard drive/s Go back to File Now scroll Down to Add Folder to Picasa
The Folder Manager opens Up. Now Check the Entire list(bar the Last Item) Has a "Black Eye" symbol against them the Final Item for the C:\ Drive will have a green tick icon Correct? If that is not correct Picasa is Not scanning the drives right. Click on the item which is NOT showing the "Black Eye" symbol and select the scan always option on the Menu NOTE Selecting the C:\ drive as a scan always is asking for trouble will slow the Computer down badly !! AND avoid the red "X" option that deletes the contents!!! Press the OK button if you have made any changes and Have your images appeared on Picasa now, after closing the Program and reopening it?

Thanks for your time and effort typing out this screed of 'help', I have now got Picasa2 up to speed but missing 120 photos. I can only say that I followed your instructions and more by luck than anything else I came on My Pictures,(which I could not find before)and sent all to the empty Picasa2 . For some reason My Pics did not contain all, but anyway I carried on with your Folder manager instruction and found:-
Black eye against My Docs, and green ticks against C:/, G:/ and Desktop.
It also says that too much time would be used trolling through G: to find it there, but it has to find My Docs there anyway !
I would like to run Picasa as a separate folder straight from my external G: drive, as I think My docs is running from there too. How would I best go about running direct from G: ? I will try this myself anyway but a suggestion from you would assist.
Thanks again Cauldbum

Picasa is a small program and unless you move the Images in bulk to the G drive on a custom folder Thats the only thing worth doing if you are trying to make space on the C:Drive
As to the settings the only thing that nees adjustment is the Desktop set to a Scan once Hence the green Tick return to the settings and switch the setting over to the "Scan always" setting (get the "Black eye")and You may see more Pics Maybe your lost Photos are on your desktop?
Ps Invest in a USB Pen Drive and Keep them there as reserve if something like this happens again or an Image save site .Ironically Picasa lets you Upload all your images to a web album Advise you make a folder ASAP (they are kept private By default) Quote:
Picasa's Newest Feature: Picasa Web Albums A free and easy way to share photos online
Upload your photos directly from Picasa Share your photos on the web with as many or as few people as you'd like.
View and save others' photos Browse your friends' albums. Even download any album right back into your Picasa.
Experience photos at their best View large, high-quality photos. Scroll, rotate and zoom with ease. Explore your creativity with captions and comments
The button to start this process is located at the foot of the Picasa Program page marked "Web Album" and it has word "NEW" flashing

Have now set Scan Always on Desktop. I do have a memory stick and will take your advice and do a complete backup. However I would like to move Picasa in its entirity over to my G: external which has more than ample space!
If I make a separate folder in G how would I best send entire Picasa2 to it.
Appreciate your effort on this, Cauldbum

It is possible open the C: drive open the Program Files folder Find the Picasa2 folder and Just drag it onto the Desktop Close the C: Drive and open the G: Drive now just drag the folder across If there is a Program Files Folder there then Drop it there BTW delete any short cut because they are pointing to the Wrong drive As to the Main link right click on the Picasa2 name select Properties then the Short cut Tab and the Path is displayed as "C:\Program Files\Picasa2\Picasa2.exe" in the Target link say the G: drive was Identical you'd alter it to read "G:\Program Files\Picasa2\Picasa2.exe" Perhaps the New path is already in Place? Check the Properties on the Picasa folder to check this out(Target link)and copy past the link into the other link then press Apply/Ok to Save
