The pc is slow on startup so i thought if i were to move all the programs from the c drive to the j drive the startup speed may improve but would it actually get quicker since all im doing is moving programs from 1 drive to another
im running xp

Had a run through this yet?
And moving programs around will probably do more harm than good :P

you definitely need a system reinstallation. however, but only as a temporary solution you can try with something like ashampoo win optimizer and instead of moving the files you can use something like hard disk defrag software. You don't have to pay, use their trials because they are something like 'cosmetics' so surely you'll still need a windows reinstall in the close future.

I was thinking about formatting the hard drive, theres nothing actually wrong with the computer, it just soemtimes takes a bit too long to startup and it goes through phases of deciding to go into a go slow routine,
cheers for your help
