For those of you who are on Virgin Media's 4Mb service, there's a free upgrade to 10Mb coming soon.
See here and here

Good, innit! I'll be interested to see how Sky react when they know full well they can't offer anything like that speed on rubbishy old telephone lines.

It's only broadband size L and XL that are being upgraded. You'll be on the M package so no , I'm afraid you won't.

Guys, according to BT,my line? will take up to 5.5Mb.Im with Virgin and just upgraded to 4Mb. So does that mean, that an upgrade in speed from 4Mb to 10Mb will not benefit me...???
And it made me wonder about my modem. It is a Motorola SB5100 surfboard, which they supplied with my original connection, which was only 256kb, if I remember correctly. Is my modem capable of using the faster speeds....?? Or do I need to upgrade it..????

First question , I'm no expert but if BT say 5.5 well i would guess that's your lot. Maybe someone can confirm this is the case , or not as it may be.
Second question , click on Hello_There's link in the first post , enter your broadband package and click next. Scroll down to your modem , place a tick in the box , scroll down to the bottom of the page and click next for your answer.

Druss, you've asked the same question here and greysts' answer leads you to the same link. You're confusing everyone by asking the same question in different forums!

To make it even more confusing he's talking about BT telephone lines. I've got no idea what that's got to do with Virgin Media cable connections.

Sorry guys, having a bad day. I used the Bt checker to see what speed was available to me.I just assumed that the same speed Bt showed would be the same for Virgin..??? When they recommend reset the modem.Do they mean just remove the power lead or do I NEED TO UPPLUG FROM THE MAINS..???

Let's get this clear once and for all. Do you have a Virgin Media CABLE connection or a Virgin Media TELEPHONE connection? You can't have both!

So can you explain what this Quote:

is all about?

According to Virgin 4Mb users will be upgraded to 10Mb.I thought Virgin piggybacked on the Bt phone line.I now realize that the broadband cable is actually run independently of any phone line.

I've just signed up for a new up to 8Mb deal from Pipex. As I type I am connecting at 7.2Mb. In a straight line I am almost exactly 1 mile from the local telephone exchange.

But Pipex isn't Virgin Media cable, which has nothing to do with telephone exchanges
