Slow PC/Freezes
      #384454 - Thu Feb 14 2008 09:55 PM

Since loading Photoshop Elements 6 on my PC everything seems to of slowed down.

Mouse freezes
Word documents takes ages to open
Getting onto the Internet is now a pain as well

I have got up to date ZoneAlarm, AVG and Spyware Terminator running on XP

Anyone with any ideas?

Try Restoring to a point before you installed Photoshop, or uninstall it and then re-install in case there are corrupted files. You could also try going to Start/ Run and typing msconfig. Go to Startup tab and untick anything relating to photoshop. Hope that helps!

Is this generally, or just when Photoshop is running? If the latter applies, then try closing other programmes or installing more RAM. If not, JD's advice above is pretty sound - something is probably running on startup.

Additionally, try running anti-virus and spyware scans on the computer to see if there is any nasties present.

Thanks for your replies.

I will re-install it sometime over the weekend to see if that works better.

your computer needs an upgrade (most likely more ram) to run photoshop.

How do you know he needs an upgrade or more RAM? What is the current spec of his machine?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

I use Elements 5 on a second computer with only 512mb of RAM. As all things Photoshop are generally known to be resource hoggers, when in use all non essential processes are closed down by using the free program Enditall. This ensures Elements works without any conflicts with Firewall or Anti Virus. When finished work requiring Enditall, it's just a case of Restarting computer and all processes come back in again.

As far as your computer is concerned, 1gb of RAM should certainly be sufficient for Elements 6. I know people using CS3 on lgb without any hiccup.

There's a couple of ways I know of to check your Memory usage although Ask.Com provides this info and more on your question.
