I recently downloaded firefox and think it is great, except when I switch on my computer it goes straight to the old browser (google) and I have to click on the icon on the desktop. Is there any way I can get it to override this and to come on as soon as I switch on?

Hi lin...If you click 'Start' on your desktop..click 'Set program access and defaults'....On the custom button you'll see 'choose a default web browser.
This is assuming that your o/s is XP. I'm afraid I'm not 'au fait' with vista!

Was your previous browser IE? (google is a search engine)and was it added into your 'startup' - as you say it opens as soon as you 'switch on'? If so after making Firefox your default browser, then maybe you can add it to your 'startup'. Might try it myself when I've finished an already 'running' download.....

Just tried it, but it slows down your PC startup too much for me. Don't always want too surf straight away.....

After making ff your default browser go to google, then in the menu bar click 'Tools' > 'Options'> Main tab click 'Show my home page and use current pages'
I hope that I've understood you problem correctly! David
