Hi..this also happens when copying from a temp folder to finalise a download and extracting from WIN RAR..It only started happening a few days ago. Here are the two the Event Log entries repeated several times whilst waitng for the files to transfer..
Event Type: Warning Event Source: Disk Event Category: None Event ID: 51 An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation.
Event Type: Error Event Source: viamraid Event Category: None Event ID: 9 The device, \Device\Scsi\viamraid1, did not respond within the timeout period.
THANK YOU CZ

Hi Cityzen, I'm worried about that third hd of yours that's only got 10% of free space on it. That's the reason the computer's slow in copying. You need to free up more space on it 'cos it's too full. I'd suggest you copy some of the data to a DVD, or other external storage media.

I think you also need to look at the RAID1 mirrored set, which is always slow.

Hi..Thanks ..After creating more space on the fullest drive, I've discovered that drive is OK..It is the drive with 50% free space that is the problem. Diskeeper won't work on it. But it's only slightly defragged anyway. What is the RAID 1 mirror set? What should I do next?..Seems like Drive G: is locked up in some way...CHKDSK is fine on it. The drive is a Seagate Barracuda ST3500630AS SCSI 500GB. Thank You. CZ

A RAID1 mirrored set uses a minimum of 2 HDDs and copies data to both disks.
I think you need to post details of your computer configuration and who built it?

OK..It was originally a MESH built system and the two original (Promise) HD's are still operational. The key Disk is C: which I store nothing on other than of course Program files along with the XP operating system. I (PC World) added a third Disk G: ( Seagate 500GB) 18 mths ago. It is this Disk, (50% free space) that is now playing up.. I can access files, play MPEGs, MP3's fine from the disk BUT any interogation of it, Virus checker, Defrag, moving files remains VERY slow.....Please let me know what other info you need. Thanks CZ

First of all, a little more information please?
1. Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager, expand the Disk Drives and post the wording back here. Do the same for the optical drives, listed as DVD/CD Drives. 2. Right-click My Computer > Manage > Disk Management and write down the Disk Numbers, Disk Names and Drive Letters. Post the details here. 3. Do you know how PC World fitted the third HDD, have you looked inside the box?

I initially thought you had a RAID 1 set up but now see that you have RAID 0. This means your files are called ‘striped set’, where the data is split between 2 disks, in your case C and D, which you say are ‘behaving’ properly. The ‘Warning’ errors are normal, well, not entirely normal but acceptable.
Drive G is causing the error(s) in Event Viewer. Go to Event Viewer, click on an Error 9 and follow the Microsoft web links. You could additionally Google ’Event ID: 9’ and look at the results.
I’d like to see inside your computer case, is this a home computer?

Hi, I went to the Microsoft site and then found the versions of the disks I have and downloaded SeaTools for Windows BUT it wont run on any drive. The error message is "Unhandled exception"....."The given path's format is not supported" When I try to ignore the error and continue, SeaTools just hangs.
It is a Home PC but I had PC World move all the components to a new bigger and better PC Case. That's when they added the 3rd G: drive.
Thanks again

Presumably you haven’t changed any BIOS settings?
I don't want to sound pessimistic but you must secure your G drive data.
You could try the Seagate site, they may have a help/support forum.

Hi..No I've not adjusted the BIOS settings. I think what caused it was the PC closing down during the moving and extracting of files to the drive. I have now emptied the drive. Other than the partioned files. 465GB of unused space! ..I have managed to run Seatools diagnostic and the drive "failed"..Could a Format work? Thank You CZ

You could try formatting the drive but I wouldn't be too hopeful.
