When I reboot my laptop, or from hybernation mode, the dvd drive icon does not appear in `my computer` folder therefore it does not recognise it when I put in a cd/dvd, I have had to restart to get it back (sometimes), and when it does come back, it appears is in a different position on the `My computer` page.The other thing I tryed was to go back to a previous restore point, but the problem is happening more frequently. I am working with Windows XP home.

Hi does it show in Device manager? (right click my computer, properties, hardware tab)
Also does it show in the BIOS, when the lappy starts you will get a quick message to tap a key to enter startup.
My guess the drive is on its way out and you probably need to send it away to have it repaired.
