I'm using a 2 year old PC running XP, plenty of memomory, decent processor and very up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware that are both run regularly. I use a USB hub with 4 slots and regularly connect my i-pod, printer, camera and USB memory stick to the hub - all are regularly disconnected for various reasons.
Just recently I noticed my PC would not recognise the printer even though all drivers and software are up to date - not really an issue as I took to printing from my laptop. Now the PC won't recognise either my i-pod or the memory stick. I've tried powering off the hub, using different slots but can't get the hub to work although it works on my laptop. So my question is do USB hubs 'freeze' and need resetting in some way, am I missing something obvious or is the hub / PC USB ports knackered??

Sadly, some people resort to reinstalling Windows in an attempt to sort out the USB confusion. I think it should be called OSB (Occasional Serial Bus not Universal Serial Bus)
Try this : 1. Unplug all USB devices except hubs, the mouse and keyboard (if you have them) then boot Windows in Safe Mode (tap F8 at switch on). 2. Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager and look for a reference to your hub, right-click it and select Uninstall. 3. Restart the system and Windows will then re-install the USB controller. Plug in your USB devices one at a time and they should be recognised properly. Note that some drivers may be needed if Windows can't find them in its own driver repository.
