Hi all, I'm new to this forum and need some advice. You are all probably really clued up with broadband and I have no idea. I'm looking for the best broadband for my Mum, she's in her seventies and has got into the computer and now needs broadband as the next step. She has a cheap phone call provider and doesn't want a package that includes free calls etc., she will never download stuff and isn't looking for high speed either, oh, and it has to be cheap of course. Who do you recommend as the best? Please don't reply with loads of techno info, I am clueless, just the best and perhaps who to avoid. Thanks in advance.

If she's already got a phone provider I would be looking to see what they can offer in Broadband terms. As a general rule such companies will offer extremely attractive deals simply to keep their existing customers happy. Who is her phone provider?

Thanks for quick response. She uses the 1899.com company, she has to dial this number before every call she makes, receives the bill via email. I'm fairly sure they don't offer broadband.

According to Martin Lewis at MoneySavingExpert the very cheapest standalone broadband package is this one from PlusNet. It's £9.99 a month and activation is free as long as you sign up for 12 months.
If she already has Sky TV then they do deals but they will want to include her telephone in the package.

You don't have to include the telephone with Sky Broadband. I already had the Sky TV Family package and just added Sky broadband at an extra £5 a month. BT is still my telephone provider.
