install w2000 to an old pc
      #383248 - Thu Feb 07 2008 01:49 PM

Hi everyone.
I have an old PC with a blank formatted HDD.
I would like to add w2000.
I was given w2000 on a CD which contains lots of other utilities.
The CD is not a bootable one.
Is there some software available that I can use to get the PC to start up/boot the CD in order to install the operating system?

Any advice much appreciated.

Does the PC have a floppy disk drive?

In that case click on this link and download the file. Place a formatted floppy in your drive and DOUBLE CLICK the file you have just downloaded. That will create a bootable floppy disk. Place that disk in your new PC and reboot. Hopefully the PC will boot up from the floppy. If it doesn't you will need to go into the BIOS and change the boot order so that the floppy is first. Once the PC has fired up and you get the A:> prompt, place your Windows 2000 CD in the drive. Type D:> and press the enter key. (It might be a different letter for the CD drive but try D first.) Type SETUP and press the Enter key and hopefully the W2000 install process will start. If it doesn't you will need to change to the directory on the CD that contains the file then run it.
