Bought a laptop, Vista home basic, installed my PSCS2 (that works perfectly under xp on my desktop pc) It was working Ok had a few extra plugins installed as well that I had on PC, no trouble, but whenever I clicked on the help function it kept giving me an error about help not being found. I then decided to uninstall it and reinstall but still no help but then when I tried to use a plugin the program freezes, screen goes whitish and then it closes. I uninstalled program again using the option of complete uninstall but when rebooted and reinstalled, my preferences were still showing so I believe it still leaves settings in the registry??? Any help? I can use the program albeit slow but cannot use the plugins which I need to use periodicaly. Do you think a registry clean would help? If so can you recommend a good one. Thanks. I have tried checking the use windows xp and also open as admin in the preferences but still freezes and goes whitish then closes.

I think the problem may be that, under the terms of the EULA, you can install the prog on only one machine at a time. Did you uninstall it from the old XP machine ? During a proper uninstall you get the option ( I can't quite recall at which point this appears) to either leave the activation file on the machine (in case you are going to reinstall on that machine) or to migrate the activation file to a new machine.
I suspect that you have left the activation file on the old machine, and that as a consequence you have a corrupt prog. on the new machine.
No way round it, unless you uninstall from the XP machine and migrate the activation to the Vista one.

Assuming you're using a legitimate copy of CS2 and it has been successfully activated, use this link . . . . >> Adobe Photoshop CS2 Help package - English to download the files.
It's almost 24MB in size, so broadband is preferred.
Hope this helps.

I alread checked with adobe before installing on laptop, you can have it on own personal pc & laptop. This is not the problem as I stated it was working fine until I uninstalled it and reinstalled it using to leave the actiation on the laptop but since having problems with that I uninstalled with the option of transferring but neither of them made any difference to the problem I am experiencing. I also have to keep registering it every time I open the program (which I do) but it still comes up agin next time I reopen the program. Thats why my original question of maybe the registry still has ps keys, hence maybe a registry clean??

My only other suggestion is that when CS2 firdt came out, it was styled version 9.0.0 and was very buggy. The bugs were sorted in an updated version 9.0.2.
Is it possible that when you installed on the XP machine, you made that update and hence the prog is working, but that when you installed on the Vista machine, you did not get that update ? Such update may not be on the installation disc, and you may have to go online via the Adobe Updater service, download and install that update.

Are you happy to play with the registry? If so I would uninstall completely, reboot and then use Regedit to search for all the instances of Photoshop in the registry and delete them all. Make sure you do a restore point first.

Hello again.
If you go to www.adobe.com/support/products/ pdfs/adobe_products_and_windows_vista.pdf
you can dowload a PDF file (very small) which highlights various compatability issues between CS2 and Vista.
The bit about plug-ins may be of interest to you, and I have quoted it here
"Q. Does Adobe support Adobe Creative Suite 2 on Windows Vista
A. Adobe Creative Suite 2 was released almost two years before Windows Vista became publicly available and is not recommended for use on this new operating system. While some of its components, including Adobe InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, and Photoshop CS2, install and run under Windows Vista with only minor known issues, other compo- nents such as Acrobat 7.0 Professional do not support Windows Vista. Q. I use a number of plug-ins with my Adobe software. Are those plug-ins compatible with Windows Vista? A. When upgrading to a major new operating system like Windows Vista, you need to plan your transition and make sure that any plug-ins you rely on for daily production work will also be compatible. For information about plug-in compatibility with Windows Vista, you will need to visit the websites for or contact the developers of your plug-ins."

Yes thanks I have already read that. But my point I was mking was that when I initially installed PSCS2 for the first time on my laptop everything worked well including the plugins, I just didnt have access to help feature. I even updated the program from adobe. I used it for a few months no problems until I was told I needed to uninstall and reinstall to get the help feature to reload, which I did and thats when my problems started. Thats why I thought it may be a registry problem and hence my asking about registry cleaners etc.

I am trying to migrate to another disk on my computer and tried to install Photoshop CS2 on the Vista disk. It would not let me activate the product. I phoned the telephone activation line who refused to activate Photoshop CS2 on Vista because Adobe did not support Vista for CS2.
A dirty marketing ploy to force users to buy CS3. Other non- supported programs work fine on Vista.

I think the common denominator here is Vista.
I'll go out on a limb here and say the easy solution is to take Vista out of the equation. It works fine & OK on XP, so I would suggest to do exactly that. It doesn't solve the problem, but removing Vista gets rid of the problem.
Photoshop was and is designed for professional use as the price tag implies. If Adobe can't or won't support PS CS2 on Vista, then the professional who prefers to use the older version must take steps to ensure he or she can carry on using the program that earns their crust. If this means reverting back to XP, so be it. If this means updating to CS3, also so be it. The professionals can carry on using PS CS2 happily on XP and argue over the principles and ethics of a major software supplier allegedly using 'dirty marketing ploys' to enhance their profits.
This doesn't mean that 'ordinary' folk can't purchase the industry standard software, but they must research a product, any product, that costs a lot of money that can't be recouped from sales or products they produce. This means 'does it work and is it supported on my System'.
