Mailwasher and freeserve
      #382478 - Fri Feb 01 2008 05:30 PM

I have a problem with mailwasher that I cannot resolve as yet with the support of mailwasher themselves, so am hoping you can all help.

I have windows XP home, Outlook and mailwasher pro v 6.1.

The problem is when I download emails on mailwasher, and do the usual business of marking as good, spam etc, when I then process and go to Outlook, some emails are downloaded that mailwasher did not "see".

As far as I can work out, it seems to be related to our freeserve accounts, and when junk mail is sent to different variations of our names.

For example, say I am called Helen Smith, and my email address is helen@smith1970.freeserve.co.uk The emails addressed correctly are seen by mailwasher. However the emails such as hellenn@smith1970.freeserve.co.uk or h@smith1970.fresserve.co.uk are not being downloaded by mailwasher, but when you do send/receive on outlook in response to those other correct emails, those that were not seen are then downloaded.

Does that make sense???

Thus we are getting a lot of spam bypassing mailwasher and being downloaded in outlook, which obviously defeats the whole point of having and paid for mailwasher. Their support so far cant understand what we are getting at, as they say that mailwasher sees everything on the isp server. That is correct in that mailwasher should be doing that and that it cannot hide messages off the isp server, but obviously something is going wrong in our case. Messages are most definately not being downloaded on mailwasher but then proceed to appear on outlook.

The email account settings have remained unchanged, and this anomly has only started to happen recently.

Any ideas as to what direction to go in???

Thanks in advance

If I've read this correctly is the problem caused by the fact that you are being too precise with your email address when setting up Mailwasher? Using your own example can you not use wildcard characters in the address something like *@smith1970.freeserve.co.uk ? Mark you, I've never used Mailwasher so that advice may be rubbish.

Replied yesterday but somehow it didnt process!

Just wanted to say thanks, you may not use mailwasher, but you helped no end!

Just needed to adjust the address on mailwasher to just smith1970.freeserve.co.uk so that it sees all messages, incorrect addresses or correct, which then enables us to delete them prior to outlook processing.

Again thanks!!

Glad it's working.
