Strange folders appeared
      #382412 - Fri Feb 01 2008 07:55 AM

Hi
I have recently noticed strange folders appearing in the root of my s drive.
The folders arnt named anything specifically just random names like - 1ff60f841f91e35fb80963cfac14e6be and similar numbers
in the folders there is a lot of .dll files a couple of .exe files and in some of the other folders there is sub folders called "update" which just contains a .logfile.
Does anybody know what these are and are they safe to delete?
Im pretty sure this occured after updates to the pc

Right click on them and choose properties. You may get some information about who they MAY belong to.

Root is normally Local Disk(C) , have you changed things ? Are they in the window's folder .

Sorry the drive is the C drive and not the S drive as previously stated (typo)
The folders dont contain any significant detail (if you right click and select properties) as to what they are or who they belong to. I have seen this on a few pc's and am convinced it is to do with updates, either windows updates or software updates.

.

It COULD be...depends what you've updated recently. Without actually seeing these files for myself ( which obviously i can't do ) , i wouldn't be comfortable in advising you to delete them. What you may want to do if you are unsure , is move the files/folders to another location on the drive. Leave them for a time , and if all runs well , then remove them.
