I have the AVG free anti virus program. When I scan my laptop, straight away it finds 'ntoskrnl.exe changed'
Firstly, what is this, is it a virus, is it a problem that needs fixing, if so, how do I fix it?
My computer has become very slow on starting, opening documents, screen flashing on and off when it starts, is this due to the above?
Sorry for all the questions, please help someone!!
I am running windows vista.
Thank you

This is usually the result of your having installed some Windows updates/security patches. Certain files as noted below are liable to be changed following Windows updates/patches and which change makes AVG suspicious.
kernel32.dll Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll
user32.dll Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll
shell32.dll Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll
ntoskrnl.exe Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
As long as AVG is showing these changes as "information" and not as "warning", there is nothing to worry about.
