Hi there, my old laptop that (runs on Win 98) about 6 years ago stopped loading up windows and I have a load of family pictures I want to retrieve.
The problem is, that the PC will do all the normal stuff, but when the windows screen comes up, the loading bar at the bottom just keeps moving and does nothing else.
I've left it running for almost an hour and it just doesn't get past this point.
I have still kept the laptop because I had family pics on and I now want to get these off as I never had them backed up.
Can anyone please help me find away of getting into my pc to enable me to get my pics off.
I can see the folders in dos mode, but can't get to them etc.
Please help!

Well, I would be able to get up dos and I could locate the drive and the folders on the c: but how would I be able to get them onto an external drive via dos?

The first thing I would try is to remove the hard disk from the laptop, plug it into one of these, connect it to your PC via USB and get your files that way.

Thanks for that.
I assume it allows to pull data/old files of the old hard drive and onto another etc.
