Using HPOfficejet Pro K5400 with DOS based SAGE
      #381646 - Sun Jan 27 2008 08:44 AM

I have recently transferred SAGE FC v9 (A DOS version) to a my newer computer which has XP Home Edition and at the same time bought a new printer as above. The printer didn't work so I continued with the old printer on older computer using Win98se.

A friend gave me a solution which was to use the new printer on LPT2 and to type in-at the DOS prompt-the following:-

NET USE LPT2: \\P4-3000\HP5400 /PERSISTENT:YES
This works and enables me to use the printer. However it seems to have a mind of its own as it will work for several days (I use Sage most days) then I will suddenly find it won't print from SAGE, it still prints from other programmes-WORD & EXCEL mainly-and I then have to stop and re-enter the formula quoted, which is a pain.

Interestingly I also have had for over 15 years a STAR LC24 DotMatrix printer which I still use for printing no-carbon duplicate paper-on SAGE. This works as good as ever without any problem.

Anybody any ideas-nothing too technical!!

Two things spring to mind. SAGE is a business-orientated piece of software. Do I assume you are running a business? Second, if you are, then why don't you upgrade your software so it works properly in a modern environment?

Thank you, I do not run a business myself but assist, on an occasional basis, 5 clients who all use DOS versions of Sage. They do not wish to upgrade because they have taken a long while to learn to use their existing versions! and only just manage to input the basic data even now. I did help one person set up a new business who had bought the latest version of Sage which in both our opinions is far too complicated for the size of business. I usually get asked to help when they have already bought the software and can't work it, I now refuse to assist anybody using the newer version as I feel that it is far slower than the original and I am too old to learn!!

So basically this relates to a problem that 5 businessmen have with their software. This forum is for personal users who do not have the means to pay for their iT assistance. I would suggest that their business plan should include the costs of professional help and to price their products accordingly.

I will close this thread.
