I hope I have the correct forum for this question. I have a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. It is 9months old. Three days ago my CD/DVD Rom Drive disappeared. I first checked the Device manager which tells me that there is an error 39 and that my iviaspi.sys file is missing. Checked my Windows system file and found it. I have googled and searched for information and find that sometimes another program can turn this off? Also that this file can become corrupted. The only new software I have installed recently is Corels Paintshop PhotoX2. I tried a system restore but no joy. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well I persevered and sorted my problem. As I downloaded PspX2 I figured that could not be the answer. However I uninstalled one program prior to this just before Christmas. Tt came already loaded with my laptop. As Windows Vista allows you to choose a date to do system restore from a drop down list, so you can see what was installed and uninstalled, I did an appropriate restore and viola! my CD/DVD Rom dive is visible and working. Just need to fathom out how I can uninstall this same program as it is surplas to requirement, without the same problem.
