HiJackThis log; & spybot autocheck autochk * & perventative maintainence
      #381175 - Thu Jan 24 2008 03:31 AM

1. I am getting a spybot S&D pop up on boot up it reads "autocheck autochk *" value added then a ExcludeFromKnownDlls value deleted.

I am running Windows XP Pro 64bit on a 250GB Western Digital SATA II HD along with Windows XP Pro 32bit on another 80GB Hitachi SATA II HD.

These are running on a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI 7100 v1 board I have the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ running at 1.8GHz a 938 socket CPU with 2GB's of Corsair PC-3200 DDR RAM with MSI Gforce 6200TC PCI-X video card. My virtual RAM is set to 3070-4096MBs I have a NEC DVD RW optical drive hooked up IDE

This system is set in the BIOS to boot to the 250Gig SATA II Western Digital & 64bit XP

2. I am planning on moving the Win XP 32bit to a 80gig Maxtor IDE drive and the 64bit to the 80 SATA II Hitachi and putting vista ultimate 64bit on the 250 and continuing to run this system. Am I heading down Problem Street?

3. I also have noticed that I have way more entries in my HiJackThis log than I did when I first loaded this OS on 30DEC07. (Both log copies attached)

I currently have on board the 64bit avira personal edition classic, spybot S&D, spywareblaster, ccleaner, winpatrol, hijackthis, siw, belarc advisor, cpuz, nvidia ntune & monitor; on the 32bit I have all of them plus windows defender and bugoff and GRC’s 3Musketeers

I am looking toward keeping this clean of garbage and would appreciate any help toward removing unnecessary garbage as well as the spybot pop up at 64bit boot up. I also booted to the 32 bit and tried to do some Creative Labs updates through Microsoft as I always get an error when I shut down media source player. After I did the updates and rebooted it (the 32bit) booted to safe mode upon reboot. I choose last known good boot and booted up.

4. What concerns me is the numerous files with (file missing)(owner unknown) at the end of the logs. (I'm thinking they may be associated with DivX etc however no clue)(also I wonder about tscuninstall)

5. ANY REFLECTION ON WHAT SHOULD AND SHOULDN'T BE HERE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED OR ANY INPUT ON POTENTIAL LURKING PROBLEMS WOULD BE APPRECIATED TOO

AKA "PLEASE ADVIZE"

Whew

LOGS ARE FROM THE 64BIT

End of file - 9430 bytes Western Digital SATA II Windows XP Pro64bit

I don't know how much the two drives cross talk when one (western digital) is xp pro64bit and the other is (hitachi) xp pro but thought to include that log along with the other as it seemed that they could talk to one another.

so here is the second drive too Windows XP Pro 32bit

I only have one computer hooked up and have only always had only one hooked up. I have never (thou I want to) networked two computers together. So no, I do not have anything networked together with this computer.

It is not in an office or business of any sort. I just have one MSI motherboard with two hard drives. Just the one computer hooked up to a DSL MODEM through my Verizon phone line.

It does have 2 seperate SATA II hard drives with two complete operating systems on each both xp pro; one 32bit one 64bit; I have office xp on them both.

The motherboard does have dual ethernet ports one nvidia one silicon image Sil 3132. I am using the nvidia ethernet port, (any opinion on that?)not sure if one is better than the other.

Incidently I have all updates from microsoft on both and am current on all other updates.

Please download ComboFix from either of these two locations

BleepingComputerComboFix
geeks to go combofix

* Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
* When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Post back with the log from ComboFix and a new HJT log please.

the problem is that combofix wasn't able to install.
combofix looks for a number of different infections and repairs them and also produces a more detailed log than HJT which can show hidden problems.

as it didn't install fully, i'm not sure what happened, try this to remove it and sort out the clock :-

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will:

    • Delete the following:
• ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present

  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.
let me know how it goes.

Ok I did that and the same blue (like the command promp only blue) box came up and started to do something. then is just went away.

The first time I ran this program it did the same thing, the blue box and a few pop ups like I posted then when I clicked on them to ok them everything went away..there never was a option 2 as you suggest...I don't know why. So I uninstalled it like you said and then downloaded it and ran it again. No luck,,however I had just done a virus scan and spybot scan and had the system restore off and had the virtual ram off. It did reset the system restore as you had said it would. I don't know about the clock yet.

The whole system seems to be a little snappier, that is quicker. And like I said the spybot pop up is gone.

So my friend,,, Where to from here. I did try re running it and the same thing happened.

give it a day or 2 and see how it is running, for some reason it doesn't want to install properly on your comp. there doesn't seem to be any malware there.
but there are an awful lot of 023 entries with "file missing" at the end of them.
is the comp running OK ?

    Thank You,,,,,Well,,,,
the add remove spybot entry is back
And yes the fix still won't load and yes that was my main concern was the "(file missing)" entries at the end of the log

    OH BY THE WAY
    ************************************************
12-24 TIME DATE Hour Time HOW TO SET (assumes classic view)

Push “Start” button stop on “Settings”

From “Settings” go over to select “Control Panel”

In the “Control Panel” double LEFT click on “Regional and Language Options”

In “Regional and Language Options” be on the “Regional Options” tab

To the right of the Country selected push the “Customize” button

In the “Customize Regional Options” box select the “Time” or “Date” tab

Read below the “Time” Tab area for the “Key” to setting Time

    Or

Go to “Date” Tab and use the drop down boxes to see how to change it to how you want it within the parameters listed

    chew
    **************************************
So,,,the puter seemed to operate a little faster when the add delete from spybot seemed suppressed.

Do we know what this one is?
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\parseautoexec

And yes the empty file entries are what is raising the red flag to me at the and of the registry under the 023 entries

    Ho Hum.....

    Where to go from here

I really thank you for your continuing effort, I forsee this series of file missing as a problem down the road, which is why I sent this querry to webusers,,, have you networked with any others on what the possible problem is?

Just trying to get to the bottom of this one is why I am asking.

    Thank You so much

    right.
the problem with the missing files is due to the fact that hijackthis was never meant to work with windows 2003 and therefore can't recognize those files, so it isn't a problem with your computer.

    Quote:

    20. Log on to Windows faster
Autoexec.bat is obsolete, so use RegEdit to find HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. Create or edit the ParseAutoexec DWORD and set it to 0. then Restart.

    quoted from HERE
that is for xp and vista, not sure about 2003.

have a look HERE and see if this is related to the "autocheck autochk" error you are getting.
it's getting to technical for me.
